Requirements and Examinations of Cosmetics in Switzerland

Already in 2017, Swiss cosmetics legislation was largely harmonized with the legislation of the European Union (Regulation (EC) 1223/2009). This mainly concerns substantive requirements (e.g., prohibited substances, preservatives, etc.) as well as documentation requirements such as the safety report, product information file (PIF), and studies to prove claimed effects.

As of May 1, 2021, at the latest, all products on the market must comply with these requirements.

From the section "Safety Assessment and Product Information File," handcrafted and locally distributed products (e.g., at school fairs, markets, etc.) are exempted.

As part of the safety report, a preservative efficacy test (PET), usually according to ISO 11930, must also be carried out.

The BAV Institute within the international Tentamus Laboratory Group along with the Swiss company Tentamus Helvetia supports you in all matters of regulation and marketing of cosmetic products. We quickly and reliably conduct the preservative efficacy test and other tests if necessary (e.g., chemical analyses) for you.
