Results of Food Monitoring from Baden-Württemberg
In September, the 2016 annual report of food monitoring in Baden-Württemberg was published. Subsequently, we have summarized important results from it for you:
- in 27% of business inspections, violations were found (in 22,399 out of 82,379 business inspections). 69% of these were related to hygiene deficiencies and 29% to inadequate labeling and presentation. 881 businesses had to be immediately closed due to unhygienic conditions.
- overall, 43,162 food samples were examined at the CVUAs in Baden-Württemberg. Of these, 8,052 samples were objected to, which corresponds to 17.9%.
- by far the most frequent reason for objections in 2016 concerned labeling or presentation (12% of the samples).
- microbial-related objections also played an important role, as excessive germ counts can lead to spoilage of food and, depending on contamination, can also pose a risk to consumer health. 43 samples were judged to be harmful to health due to microbiology.
health-threatening foreign objects such as glass and metal were found in 31 samples. - other objections were due to, for example, excessive amounts of pesticides, pyrrolizidine and tropane alkaloids, heavy metals, or unauthorized conditions.
