Safety Gate - Reports for Cosmetics June 2021
In the EU Rapid Alert System for non-safe products (Safety Gate), the following recalls for cosmetics were reported in June 2021:
- Product contains tretinoin (vitamin A acid); this substance is not allowed in cosmetics and can be teratogenic
- Leave-on product with the preservatives methylisothiazolinone (MIT) and methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT); both substances are prohibited in this product category and can lead to allergies
- Increased lead content in decorative cosmetics; lead may only be present in technically unavoidable and health-safe quantities
Recalls and withdrawals from the market are also often due to microbiological findings. Microorganisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pluralibacter gergoviae, Burkholderia cepacia, etc., play a major role here.
