Salmonella outbreak due to melons

At the end of March this year, initial illnesses associated with the consumption of melons infected with Salmonella Braenderup occurred. Whole honeydew, cantaloupe, and Galia melons from Costa Rica, Honduras, and Brazil are suspected as the source of the infections. In total, 200 people in more than ten countries were affected by the outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup, with 49 cases known in Germany. In general, consumption is discouraged without knowing the origin of the melons.

Furthermore, adhering to hygiene rules is important, especially washing hands and surfaces to avoid cross-contaminations.
