The number of infections with Salmonella Enteritidis acquired in the EU has increased by 3% since 2014. In laying hens, the prevalence increased from 0.7% to 1.21% during the same period.

Salmonella in eggs was the most common cause of foodborne disease outbreaks in 2016, with 1,882 cases.

In our laboratory, we routinely conduct this investigation. In 2017, BAV tested around 100,000 food samples for Salmonella. We use various accredited procedures, including rapid methods lasting 24 hours with RT-PCR as well as classical methods.
