Special Edition Cosmetics Part 8: Requirements for Microbiological Quality Control of Cosmetics

In recent years, numerous new requirements have been added in the field of microbiological quality management (MQM) in the cosmetics industry. On one hand, this is due to the Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, which has been binding for a year, as the GMP standard EN ISO 22716:2007 has acquired legal status as a result. Furthermore, numerous ISO standards on microbiological methods and topics such as challenge tests and risk assessment have been published in recent years. Additionally, there are other innovations from the SCCS guidelines and the IFS HPC standard for household and personal care products. These topics have already been extensively covered in the newsletters Cosmetics Part 1 to 7. This newsletter aims to succinctly summarize the key requirements for microbiological quality control.
