Stability tests and compatibility examinations of cosmetic products at BAV Institute
Cosmetic products must be stable over the entire shelf life and life cycle of a product. Stability must be demonstrated according to the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, and documentation is part of a product’s safety report.
The BAV Institute routinely conducts stability tests of cosmetic products. Samples are stored at various temperatures (e.g., room temperature and 40°C) and the quality is checked against specific product parameters before and after storage. These parameters can include:
- Sensory examination: appearance, smell, consistency
- pH value
- Density
- Viscosity
- Microbiological quality according to ISO 17516
- Other product-specific parameters
Furthermore, at the end of the storage period, a preservation stress test (PST, according to ISO 11930) can be conducted again to ensure that the product is still adequately preserved.
