STEC in pork
Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) are bacteria that can cause acute intestinal inflammation. Particularly in children, an infection with STEC can lead to the development of a hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS).
In 2019, as part of the zoonoses monitoring program, 420 samples of minced pork were tested for STEC. 7.4% of the samples contained STEC germs. In the last comparable study ten years earlier, only 0.8% of the samples had tested positive.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for STEC in food. We provide rapid and reliable results.
