Successful training event for food inspectors at BAV Institute
From May 20 to 22, 2019, a training event for the Federal Association of Food Inspectors e.V. took place at the BAV Institute. Over 30 food inspectors furthered their education and discussed current topics related to food hygiene, safety, and law.
The following topics were covered:
- Current status of foodborne illnesses
- What needs to be considered in a Listeria monitoring?
- STEC/VTEC/EHEC in plant-based foods
- Flexibility of HACCP concepts according to EU Notice 2016/C278/01
- Food Law Update I: Current: ALTS and ALS Resolutions
- Food Law Update II: Legal court decisions on § 40 Abs. 1a LFGB and "TOPF SECRET"
- The GFSI standard ("IFS-Light): QM standard for small and medium-sized enterprises
- Selected aspects of the EU Control Regulation: Rights and obligations of companies
- DGHM recommendations and EU Regulation 2073/2005: Assessment of microbiological test results, consequences of excessive findings, trends
- Hygiene & HACCP guide for artisanal ice cream manufacturers: Content and structure of the guide, microbiological self-monitoring
- Drinking water, water dispensers, ice cubes & Co.: How significant are the risks really?

In addition to the lectures, an interesting and enjoyable supporting program was organized with visits to the company Hobart as well as tours in Gengenbach and Strasbourg.
Both the Federal Association of Food Inspectors and the BAV Institute suggested that a similar event should be repeated on occasion.
