The Food Association Germany informs about a successfully completed consultation process by the AFFL Expert Panel regarding the classification of Teewurst into category 1.3 according to Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005. The background is new recommendations for the prevention of Listeria monocytogenes in food production.

In extensive challenge tests from the years 2021 to 2025, it was examined whether Teewurst promotes the growth of Listeria monocytogenes under defined manufacturing and storage conditions. The Expert Panel concluded in its final statement that, according to the current state of science and technology, Teewurst does not promote growth and thus meets the requirements for classification in category 1.3.
