Toasties in Eco-Test: Mycotoxins, Pesticides, and Acrylamide

Öko-Test has tested 18 toast rolls, including nine organic products. Criticism focused mainly on mold toxins (mycotoxins), pesticides, and acrylamide.

In five tested products, increased levels of T-2 and HT-2 mold toxins were detected. T-2/HT-2 toxins are among the most common toxins produced by mold on grains. Mold toxins mainly form on grains in humid, cold summers. Complaints from the intake of T-2/HT-2 toxins through food can include vomiting, diarrhea, and skin reactions. The Regulation (EU) 2023/915 specifies maximum levels for T-2 and HT-2 toxins in various foods.
