Tularemia-InfectionsThroughFood-BfRRiskProfile
In June 2018, the BfR assessed the health risks posed by F. tularensis in food, taking into account the pathogen's resistance (tenacity) during the processing of both plant-based and animal-derived raw materials.
The result can be summarized in the BfR risk profile for tularemia infections through food as follows:
- Numerous population groups ("general population") are affected.
- The likelihood of a health impact from
F. tularensis in food is "unlikely." - The severity of the health impact from tularemia is considered moderate and "reversible."
- The available data provide a "medium" level of evidence as some
important data are missing or still contradictory. - Control of the disease by the consumer is possible through appropriate precautionary measures.
We are very happy to assist you with any questions.
