UV index and SPF in cosmetics– what does one have to do with the other?
The UV Index (UVI) is an international measure for assessing the sunburn-causing UV radiation of sunlight. The higher the UVI, the more protective the sunscreen product used must be.
A recent announcement from the IKW Industry Association addresses the following questions.
- Recommended protective measures depending on UVI
- Classification of skin types 1 to 4, as well as children's skin
- Recommended sun protection factors (SPF)
In addition to these questions, Tentamus answers the question of whether and, if so, what possible residues might be found in your sunscreen products and provides an assessment according to Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009.
We check, among other things, for prohibited plasticizers (monohexyl phthalate, dihexyl phthalate, and others), heavy metals, as well as for microbiological contaminations according to the requirements of ISO 17516.
