In the European rapid alert system for consumer products (RAPEX), nearly 80 cosmetic products were reported in the first half of 2018 that pose a serious risk to human health.

Decorative cosmetics, creams, perfumes, and hair products were particularly frequently affected. Furthermore, soaps, shower gels, bath products, and wet wipes are listed. In addition to abnormalities in chemical composition, confusion with food products and increased microbial contamination were mentioned.

The following risks are listed, among other things, in the field of chemistry in RAPEX:

In the field of microbiology, among other things, a product (emulsion) was objected to due to a significantly increased load of mesophilic aerobic bacteria. Contact with damaged skin or contact with the eye can lead to infections or skin irritations.

In all cases, the corresponding products were recalled from the market or removed from the shelves, with the corresponding consequences for manufacturers and marketers.

Regularly check the microbiological and chemical quality to ensure the quality of your cosmetic products. BAV offers you the complete portfolio of investigations.
