What product names are allowed according to the guidelines for vegan and vegetarian foods?

With the publication of the "Guidelines for Vegan and Vegetarian Foods Similar to Foods of Animal Origin," an exact product designation for vegan and vegetarian foods was prescribed and certain designations were excluded.

The product designation must refer to the vegan or vegetarian nature and the key substitute ingredient, and be prominently displayed, e.g., as "vegetarian schnitzel made from milk protein" or "vegan seitan goulash."

Indications that belong to the group of protected designations of origin, protected geographical indications, and designations for guaranteed traditional specialties (e.g., Black Forest ham, Thuringian Rostbratwurst, Black Forest trout, etc.) may not be used for vegan and vegetarian foods, even with references such as "style of...," "like...," or "type...".

The same applies due to the designation protection for dairy products, beef, poultry carcasses, and designations from the directory for fishery and aquaculture products.
