14.07.2025 - Listeria: often found in sliced smoked fish
July 11, 2025 – A public recall for sliced smoked salmon with the best before date of 14.07.2025 has been published. The affected product was distributed through a major food discount retailer.
As previous, cross-regional investigation programs by the relevant authorities have shown, sliced smoked fish is particularly susceptible to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes towards the end of the shelf life period.
As part of the recall, the legally required warning notice is to be communicated as follows:
„Listeria can cause flu-like symptoms with fever and diarrhea. Particularly for pregnant women, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems, consuming products can lead to serious illnesses (‚listeriosis‘).“
Prevention Note:
For microbiological safety, regular testing of smoked fish products, delicatessen products, as well as cheese and luncheon meats for Listeria monocytogenes is recommended.
The BAV Institute offers validated, molecular biological rapid methods for this purpose. For further information, our customer service is available.
