60 toothpastes tested by Öko-Test
Both toothpastes and tooth cleaning tablets were closely examined in the current Öko-Test magazine April 2021. They were tested for residues and contaminants with regard to compliance with the Cosmetics Regulation Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.
Almost 40 of the 60 products tested received the rating "very good." Six additional products received a "satisfactory" rating, while all other tested dental products achieved at most "sufficient". Leading to a downgrade were mainly:

- Insufficient protection through fluoride
- Sodium lauryl sulfate
- PEG and PEG derivatives
- Parabens and other critical preservatives
- PVC/PVDC/chlorinated compounds in the packaging
- Missing usage instructions for children
