Eye drops with antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the USA – Pseudomonas aeruginosa
At least 58 people from 13 US states experienced severe health impairments after using contaminated eye drops.
The cause was microbial contamination with the microorganism Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This germ is not new.
Antibiotic-resistant variants of this germ are responsible for more than 30,000 infections and 2,500 deaths per year in the USA. Contaminated water during the production of pharmaceuticals is usually identified as the source.
Regular microbiological control of the water is essential. The BAV Institute conducts these tests regularly. We are also happy to advise you on the selection of test spectra and the frequency of tests.
