Regulation (EU) 2021/418 – Innovations for Food Supplements (FS)
In March 2021, new regulations were adopted with Regulation (EU) 2021/418 concerning the use of nicotinamide riboside chloride and magnesium citrate malate.
This regulation newly includes these two compounds as sources for nutrients for food supplements in Annex II of Directive 2002/46/EC (member states' legislation on food supplements). Here, nicotinamide riboside chloride is considered a source of niacin, and magnesium citrate malate as a source of magnesium.
Furthermore, in Annex I, the unit for labeling copper was changed from µg to mg.
This change is finally effective from September 30, 2022. Until then, products that do not comply with these requirements may still be placed on the market until the existing stocks are used up.
