BVL zoonosis monitoring detects health-threatening STEC bacteria

The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) published a press release last week about their zoonosis monitoring 2020. As part of the monitoring, Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) were detected in some product groups. These bacteria can cause acute intestinal inflammation in humans, which can sometimes have a severe course.

Particularly noticeable were fresh lamb meat, where STEC was detected in 13.2% of the samples tested, as well as samples of wheat flour from mill operations, where 9.1% had STEC.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for Shiga toxin-producing E. coli. We provide fast and reliable results.
