Advertising “vegan” or “vegetarian” can represent advertising with self-evidence
The Expert Panel on Food Chemistry (ALS) clarified in its statement No. 2020/03 whether a claim such as "vegan" or "vegetarian" can be considered as self-evident advertising.
The indication "vegan" or "vegetarian" or the use of relevant labels is seen as additional information for consumers. However, these indications can represent self-evident advertising, especially in the case of single products. This is particularly true if the product responsible cannot demonstrate any difference in manufacturing or composition compared to comparable products.
The additional indication "naturally..." in connection with these notes can prevent possible deception.
