Contamination of Cosmetics with Burkholderia cepacia

Again and again, cosmetic products become contaminated with gram-negative microorganisms. Among others, Burkholderia spp. (commonly Burkholderia cepacia) plays an important role here. Other microorganisms such as Ralstonia pickettii or Pluralibacter gergoviae are also relevant.

All the microorganisms mentioned can multiply in water-containing products. Insufficient water quality or gaps in a product's preservation system are usually the cause.

Regularly test your products microbiologically for compliance with ISO 17516. The production water used should also be subjected to regular microbiological examinations.

We at the BAV Institute are happy to advise you on all questions concerning the microbiological examination of your products and the testing and evaluation of your production water.

We are also at your side with advice and assistance on all topics relating to cleaning and disinfection as well as operational hygiene.
