Coronavirus survives on surfaces for up to 28 days
In a new study, researchers found that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is very robust on smooth surfaces. Even after 28 days (at 20°C), active viruses were still detectable on surfaces such as cell phone screens made of glass and plastic banknotes.
Even though transmission or infection with SARS-CoV-2 viruses occurs primarily through the air (aerosols) and especially through droplets, further spread of the viruses via surfaces is possible. However, it is unclear to what extent smear infections can also be triggered this way.
The document "Can the novel coronavirus be transmitted via food and objects?" from the BfR dated 10.09.20 states that infections via surfaces of objects and food are not known. However, a residual risk via these transmission paths cannot be completely ruled out.
The BAV Institute and other Tentamus laboratories therefore offer surface examinations for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. On various objects, as well as used mouth-nose masks, there have already been some positive results. Consequently, immediate and meaningful prevention measures could be taken. This, in turn, possibly prevented the further spread of the viruses.
In our laboratory, we can conduct tests for the coronavirus! We provide you with suitable swabs with which you can take samples. These samples will be analyzed for SARS-CoV-2 in the shortest possible time.
