Cosmetics in Switzerland – Requirements of the FOPH for cosmetic products
Since May 2021, all cosmetics in Switzerland must fully comply with the Ordinance of the EDI on Cosmetic Products (VKos). Essentially, these requirements are identical to those of the VO (EC) 1223/2009.
There are deviations from EU regulation regarding language requirements and the issue of notification. Furthermore, the requirements only partially apply to products that are distributed locally and on a small scale (e.g., school fairs).
Essentially, the following requirements must be met:
- Safety report including accompanying stability tests
- Creation of a Product Information File (PID, PIF)
- Proof of claimed effects, similar to the VO (EC) 655/2013
- Compliance with Cosmetic GMP (kGMP)
- Conducting a preservative efficacy test (PET), usually according to ISO 11930 for all products that are microbiologically susceptible.
