Cross-border outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis linked to eggs
In September 2021, France reported an increase in infections with Salmonella Enteritidis sequence type ST11.
By January 11, 2022, 272 confirmed cases were reported in five countries of the European Union or the European Economic Area and in the United Kingdom. In 60 cases, consumption of eggs and egg products was indicated. The eggs came from three Spanish farms, one of which tested positive for the outbreak strain.
The risk of new infections from the outbreak strain via contaminated eggs remains high.
