Cosmetic raw materials: Test the quality according to Regulation (EC) 1223/2009

Cosmetic raw materials must be suitable and safe for the production of cosmetics (Regulation (EC) 1223/2009). In most cases, documentation from raw material manufacturers, including certificates of analysis, demonstrate the quality of the raw materials used.

Nevertheless, the quality of raw materials—especially those originating from natural sources—can be subject to significant fluctuations. Therefore, check the quality of your raw materials based on certain test parameters on a spot-check basis. Parameters may include:

• Microbiological quality (ISO 17516)
• Pesticides
• Heavy metals
• General chemical-physical parameters such as pH value, density, viscosity, etc.

The BAV Institute within the international Tentamus Laboratory Group conducts all relevant microbiological and chemical tests for you.
