In the current January issue of the Öko-Test magazine, a total of 55 hand soaps from various manufacturers were examined. In times of COVID-19, this product group is currently in high use.
A total of 42 products received a rating of good or very good, three were rated satisfactory, three sufficient, and the remaining 7 products were rated as poor at best. The following led to a downgrade by one or more grades:
- PEG and PEG derivatives
- Lack of evidence for the antibacterial claim
- Questionable UV filters, e.g. Benzophenone-3
- Certain preservatives such as methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT)
- Diethyl phthalate
- Artificial musk fragrance
- Others
Regularly check your products for their ingredients and possible contaminants and residues. The BAV Institute in conjunction with the international Tentamus Laboratory Group is at your disposal with extensive expertise and the latest analytical techniques.
