Recall: STEC in Sucuk

Due to the detection of STEC/VTEC, an official recall of Sucuk from a food manufacturer has been initiated. The publication was made on the website lebensmittelwarnung.de.
STEC/VTEC refers to potentially pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains. The terms VTEC (verotoxin-producing E. coli) and STEC (Shiga toxin-producing E. coli) are used synonymously. An STEC illness usually manifests within a week after infection with diarrhea and nausea. Infections with these strains can have severe, life-threatening consequences up to and including death. Pathogens causing these diseases are known under the term EHEC (enterohemorrhagic E. coli). Raw animal and plant-based foods are particularly affected.
A profile of the potentially pathogenic E. coli strains STEC/VTEC can be found on our company homepage

Further information can also be found on the websites of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).
