Safety Gate – Cosmetic Reports for the Month of September 2021
In the EU's Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (Safety Gate), regulatory objections for cosmetics were raised in September.
Publication in the Safety Gate generally indicates a direct potential health risk; the products do not comply with Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, resulting in a recall or withdrawal from the market.
Due to the following findings, cosmetics were reported or recalled from the market:
- Use of Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) and Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT) in a leave-on product
- Significantly lower UV protection (LSF/SPF) than stated on the label
- Excessive content of salicylic acid (preservative)
- Increased content of mercury
Regular testing of end products as well as testing related raw materials for prohibited residues and contaminants (e.g., heavy metals, pesticides, phthalates, etc.) plays an important role.
The BAV Institute in cooperation with the international Tentamus Laboratory Group conducts these examinations quickly and reliably for you. We look forward to your message!
