In the current issue May 2021, solid shower gels are among the items examined in detail and checked for critical ingredients. In terms of more sustainability and the avoidance of plastics, these products are becoming increasingly popular.

A total of 18 products were tested. One product received a satisfactory rating, one received an inadequate rating, and all others achieved at least good or very good.

Factors leading to a downgrade included:

-       Polycyclic musk compounds, e.g. Galaxolide

-       Diethyl phthalate and other plasticizers

-       Certain declarable allergenic fragrances, e.g. Hydroxycitronellal

-       Phosphonates

The basis for evaluating these products is the EU Cosmetics Regulation VO (EC) 1223/2009.

Make your product ready for Öko-Test and regularly check for the above-mentioned substances and substance groups as well as other possible residues, such as heavy metals.
