Investigation of cosmetic raw materials

Cosmetic raw materials must be suitable and safe for the production of cosmetics (Regulation (EC) 1223/2009). In most cases, documentation from the raw material manufacturers, including certificates of analysis, proves the quality of the raw materials used.

Nevertheless, the quality of raw materials - especially when sourced from natural origins - can be subject to significant fluctuations. Therefore, check the quality of your raw materials on a sample basis using specific test parameters. Parameters can include:

• Microbiological quality (ISO 17516)
• Pesticides
• Heavy metals
• General chemical-physical parameters such as pH value, density, viscosity, etc.

The BAV Institute within the international Tentamus laboratory group carries out all relevant microbiological and chemical tests for you.

We are also happy to support you concerning the selection of product-specific parameters and advise you on test frequencies as well as on the evaluation of the results.
