Recalls of cosmetics in the Safety Gate
The EU's rapid alert system, known as Safety Gate, lists non-food products that are deemed unsafe for consumers. This includes cosmetics regulated under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
These products are publicly recalled or removed from the market.
Common reasons for recalls include:
- Prohibited fragrances BMHCA (Butylphenyl Methylproprional) and HICC (Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxyaldehyde)
- Excessive levels of heavy metals (arsenic, antimony, lead, cadmium, mercury)
- Prohibited preservatives thiazolinones in leave-on products
- Insufficient microbiological quality according to ISO 17516
Regularly check raw materials and cosmetic end products for possible residues and contaminants. The experts at BAV Institute are at your service for advice and assistance.
